Three Things I Learned From One Week Of Yoga Teacher Training

I started doing yoga around 2013 at a hot yoga studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a former football player, the only type of fitness I knew was lifting, spiriting, speed, and agility drills, and being tortured with up-downs, also known as burpees, with full pads.

I'm lucky and blessed to be doing a month-long yoga teacher immersion, and all I can say is wow. Here are the three things I've learned from one week into this training:

  1. Be Open To Unlearning: The number one thing I am doing right now is unlearning old habits, mindsets, and information. Being open to unlearning is a process of letting go, and it feels good to say: I am letting go.

  2. Allow Yourself To Breakup With Perfection: I wrote about this topic in great detail in my new book, Loving Yourself Properly. The pursuit of perfection doesn't allow us to be human, to be students, to learn with compassion. It makes you hard on yourself. I use the affirmation, "I'm still learning," whenever that type of energy comes up.

  3. Be Open To Change: A great deal of suffering happens because of people's resistance to change. This practice has me out of my routines, out of my comfort zone, and it's put me into a place of openness - as a consequence, I feel free.

My book on self-love and living your most authentic life, called Loving Yourself Properly, is now on sale at Amazon, audible, and SylvesterMcNutt.net/books
