Going At Your Pace: The Importance of A Morning Flow

Finding Your Flow Is Everything

We all have different speeds that we can activate as we move through life. I've also found that finding the pace that is natural for you at the moment seems to be the one that gives us the most access to live in congruence. I've found one simple practice that can get me into coherence with my goals, my dreams, and what is important to me.

It's called a morning routine. There is a popular niche on YouTube about varying morning routines. I've seen millions of views showcasing what different people do worldwide. I find it fascinating how people need and want different things in the morning based on their culture, age, and even where they live.

Let's keep it simple and powerful here. The more direct, the better. Here are practical and powerful reasons to have a morning routine:

Improved Mental Health:

Incorporating mindfulness activities, such as meditation or journaling, into your morning routine can positively impact your mental well-being. It provides a moment for reflection and sets a positive mindset for the day ahead.

Enhanced Focus and Concentration:

A consistent morning routine can improve your ability to concentrate on tasks throughout the day. You create a conducive environment for focused work by eliminating morning chaos and distractions.
Better Physical Health:

Including exercise or a nutritious breakfast in your morning routine contributes to improved physical health. Regular training in the morning, for example, can boost energy levels and metabolism.

Establishing Consistency:

Having a set morning routine adds structure and consistency to your daily life. Predictable mornings can reduce stress, helping you face challenges with a more stable mindset.

Setting a Positive Tone:

Starting the day with activities that bring joy or a sense of accomplishment sets a positive tone. This positivity can carry through the rest of the day, influencing your overall outlook and interactions.

Tailor your routine to align with your personal goals and preferences for maximum effectiveness. Something to keep in mind is that you can remove pieces or add more as your life dictates it. There could be less time for whatever reason. Another thing to consider is the why behind it. I started my day focused, organized, and attacking a mission. I decided to end my days to be about relaxation, family, and fun. I use the start of the day to be determined and focused and to use my energy. This distinction makes setting healthy boundaries and having a work-life balance more manageable. Here's a look deeper into my morning routine.

I like approaching this in the way a football coach enters a game. He comes up with a "call sheet" or a "playsheet," and he calls the best play appropriate for the situation during the game. As the game goes on, you make adjustments, you call plays that suit your players, and you pick the best call that gives you the most chances to win.

For example, a morning routine call sheet could look like:

- a walk in the neighborhood

- a nice slow cup of coffee & book

- Body prep: Hygiene, hydration, and prayer/meditation

- Time outside in the garden/yard work/prepping food for the day.

- Physical Fitness: at home or going to a studio/gym.

- intentional family time: family prayer, family goal setting, or simply waking up together.

As the leader and play-caller of your life, your mission is to call the right plays that put you and your team in a position to win, thrive, and enjoy all that life has to offer.

The other factor Is who you live with. If you live alone, then you 100% have dominion over all of your time and what you do. If you have kids and other adults who live with you, you'll have to adapt your flow to include them, too. One thing to keep in mind is that if there are certain things you NEED that you know will not happen if your family is up, then it becomes time to get up before them. For example, if you want to read more and write your goals down, but your toddlers or teenagers are up creating chaos, you cannot blame them. They are doing what they are supposed to do, ha. Your job is to get up earlier, set your intention, and do what you need to do.

No excuses.
